Forget rising sea levels. If/when the salinity changes, the diatoms will die out. The biggest CO2 bomb.

This is also the best solution for bio-diesel fuel. Algae that is. It grows like foam and can grow in most waters. Far, far better solution than corn. Saves the rainforests and stops us from burning down other fields for an unGodly amount of corn, which doesn't burn into anything useful. Also more nutritious than corn.

Diatoms are also the excellent staple for organic and inorganic nanotechnology to repair tissues in medical fields as well as theoretically repairing damage to metals. 8D
